History

Origins and Foundation

The estate of Hamirpura belongs to the Deora clan of Chauhans, the ruling dynasty of the former Sirohi State in southwestern Rajputana. The lineage traces back to Maharao Lakha (Lakharaj) of Sirohi, whose grandson, Rajshri Samant Singh, was initially granted the fief of Harani as an appanage for his maintenance and military service.

According to local chronicles, Harani was later abandoned due to an entrenched local curse, leading its inhabitants and ruling family to disperse. Following the desertion of Harani, two daughter estates were established in the region: Amarapura and Hamirpura. Hamirpura was founded by Thakur Godh Singh, a direct patrilineal descendant of Samant Singh through Thakur Amar Singh and Thakur Bhav Singh. Godh Singh laid out the new settlement, establishing a fortified manor house (rawala) and settling cultivators to reclaim the surrounding semi-arid tracts.

Feudal Ties and Governance

Within the complex hierarchical network of Sirohi's feudal aristocracy, Hamirpura maintained close kinship and customary obligations with the prominent estate of Rohua. As a junior offshoot, the Thakurs of Hamirpura recognized Rohua’s seniority in clan matters, while rendering direct allegiance and customary feudal tribute to the Maharao of Sirohi.

The Thakurs administered civil and judicial affairs over their subjects, retaining customary rights over agricultural revenues (hasil). Their territorial jurisdiction encompassed agricultural lands around Hamirpura proper as well as designated revenue-yielding portions in the fertile tracts near Dantrai. In exchange for these estates, the Thakurs were obligated to maintain horsemen for the defense of the realm and attend upon the Maharao during formal state durbars.

Colonial Period

Following the treaty of 1823 between Maharao Sheo Singh of Sirohi and the British East India Company, the British established political oversight via the Rajputana Agency. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, administrative reforms initiated by the state durbar sought to systematize land revenue and curb lawlessness in the border areas adjoining Gujarat and Marwar.

While larger Thikanas frequently engaged in disputes with the Sirohi Durbar regarding tribute (rekh) and jurisdiction, Hamirpura remained an orderly countryside estate, focusing on revenue settlement, agrarian cultivation, and traditional rural stewardship alongside neighboring Deora holdings.

Integration and Post-Independence Era

With the independence of India in 1947 and the subsequent accession of Sirohi State, the political framework of the princely hierarchy was systematically dissolved. Following the enactment of the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act, 1952, all jagirdari rights, hereditary tolls, and feudal privileges held by the Thakurs of Hamirpura were formally abolished.

The agricultural lands were vested in tenant farmers under modern revenue laws, while the former ruling family transitioned into private citizens, retaining their ancestral residence, family temples, and private farmlands. Today, Hamirpura functions as a revenue village within the Sirohi district of Rajasthan.
